This mosaic fresco signed Mathilde Jonquière is set in the centre of the Dubai Cartier store, in the Feminine Icons area. It represents three macro views of pearl oysters: Pinctada margaritifera and Pinctada radiata. Mathilde Jonquière highlights the beauty and delicacy of pearls through a composition of great refinement. As a symbol of the white gold treasure and the history of the Arabian Peninsula’s waters, the mosaic draws the legend: “When the pure light of the full moon shines across the seas, the oysters rise to the surface and, caressed by the waves, open their shells to capture a drop of silver night. This is how pearls are born…” An ode to the beauty of the poetic woman represented by the rhythm of colours and layers of sand and sea in opal glass paste, gloss, smalt, gem and mother-of-pearl set with gold tesserae. These carefully orchestrated materials diffract the light rays and create an iridescence in the space, a soft glimmer that recalls all the inner colours of the pearl. This is the very essence of Mathilde Jonquière’s artworks, inviting us to immerse sensorially in a world where every detail, every material, echoes poetry.
